Dire Straits’ 1982 fourth album is their most ambitious and atmospheric — five long tracks rather than radio-length singles, and the first to be entirely produced by Mark Knopfler himself. The fourteen-minute opener “Telegraph Road” is a sweeping rock epic, while “Private Investigations” became one of the band’s most distinctive UK hits. A more cinematic, jazz-tinged Dire Straits before the global blockbuster of Brothers in Arms.
