Vampire Weekend — Modern Vampires of the City

Vampire Weekend’s 2013 third album is widely considered their finest — a darker, more reflective record about mortality, faith and growing up in a New York that’s slipping away. Co-produced with Ariel Rechtshaid, it weaves pitch-shifted vocals, harpsichords and choirboy harmonies into songs like “Step,” “Diane Young” and “Hannah Hunt.” The smog-shrouded Manhattan cover photo says everything about the mood.
